Explore SOURCE LAB skincare →Dryness can have different causes. Skin Compass records skincare, cleansing and skin comfort together so your experience is easier to follow. It cannot determine the cause. Persistent or worsening symptoms need professional advice.
Using many products or switching frequently can make it harder to assess how well you tolerate individual steps. Your diary helps you keep a record. It cannot tell whether symptoms are caused by overdoing skincare or something else.

Cream is one part of your routine. Hot water, cleansing and dry air can also matter. The AAD recommends gentle cleansing and moisturising while skin is still slightly damp. First note when your skin feels tight: immediately after washing, or later?
Days 1–4 and 8: look at skin comfort and cleansing together.
Redness, stinging or dryness can occur with irritated skin. They do not prove that you are overdoing skincare: irritation and contact allergies have different causes. Record new products and reactions. Seek professional advice for persistent or worsening symptoms instead of continuing to experiment.
Days 5, 9 and 10: review your routine and record new steps individually.
Humectants help retain water. Emollients smooth rough skin, while a protective film can reduce water loss. A formulation may serve several purposes. Use the skincare-functions exercise to observe your experience; this is not evidence of a product’s effectiveness.
Days 6, 7 and 14: understand skincare functions and compare your diary.
