SOURCE LAB develops its own answer to classic sensitive skin care

September 18, 2026. The market for sensitive skincare is growing – and with it the number of new active ingredients, serums, and multi-step routines. SOURCE LAB deliberately takes a different approach: not with the next trendy active ingredient, but with the foundation of the formulation.
The heart of the newly positioned skincare brand is an exclusively developed 4-mineral complex of sodium, calcium, magnesium, and strontium.
The four minerals form a defined skincare base that is combined with selected additional care components depending on the product. With this, SOURCE LAB is developing its own answer to classic sensitive care: mineral-based, consciously reduced in formulation, and clear in its purpose.
The focus is on concrete skincare needs such as dryness, tightness, roughness, easily stressed skin, and occasional blemishes – instead of as long a list of active ingredients as possible.
Sodium, calcium, magnesium, and strontium form the brand's characteristic mineral skincare base.
Further ingredients are selected specifically for their role within the respective formulation.
Moisture, barrier care, or targeted treatment: Products should interact meaningfully instead of unnecessarily lengthening routines.
SOURCE LAB works with specialized German development and production partners.
Don't add another active ingredient. Rethink the foundation.
SOURCE LAB does not see the mineral complex as a decorative addition in an otherwise classic formulation. The mineral base is at the start of product development. Only then follow other specifically selected care building blocks with a clearly defined task.
A unique answer to classic sensitive care
Sensitive care is often initially defined by what a formulation does not contain: less fragrance, fewer potentially irritating components, fewer aggressively used active ingredients.
SOURCE LAB considers this idea important – but not complete. Because leaving things out alone does not answer the question of how the care should be structured instead.
This is exactly where the brand comes in. The starting point is its own mineral skincare base made of four defined minerals. Depending on the product's task, a few selected care building blocks are subsequently added.
For example, the Sensitiv Skin Cream combines the mineral base with ceramide NP, squalane, glycerin, and shea butter, while the Mineral Roll-On is additionally aimed at the targeted care of individual blemishes with ectoin and zinc PCA.
Don't just pack less into a formula. Know why something is in there.
Two care logics – two different starting points
SOURCE LAB does not differentiate itself by claiming that classic sensitive care is fundamentally unsuitable. The difference lies in the logic of development and communication.
Which active ingredient is missing?
New product communication is often built around an additional hero active ingredient, another serum, or a new care step.
What task should the care fulfill?
A defined mineral base forms the starting point. Only what is sensible for the respective task of the formulation is added.
Four minerals instead of the next beauty buzzword
The heart of SOURCE LAB product development is the combination of sodium, calcium, magnesium, and strontium.
The four minerals are used in a fixed composition developed exclusively for SOURCE LAB. The exact composition of the complex remains company know-how.
For the mineral base, selected high-purity raw materials with defined quality requirements are used. This creates a controllable and reproducible mineral skincare base.
Sodium
Mineral component related to the natural moisture environment of the stratum corneum.
Calcium
Physiologically closely linked to skin cell maturation and epidermal barrier processes.
Magnesium
Mineral of scientific interest in connection with moisture and skin comfort.
Strontium
Certain strontium salts have been studied, among other things, in connection with sensory skin irritation.
Important for context: Scientific findings on individual minerals are not automatically proof of efficacy for a finished SOURCE LAB product. The brand therefore deliberately distinguishes between ingredient research and claims about the finished formulation.
The inspiration for it was already underground
The mineral approach has an unusual backstory. In 2013, during drilling work in the Nienburg/Weser region, a highly mineralized deep-well spring was discovered.
Its unique mineral profile became the starting point for the company's later exploration of mineral skincare.
However, SOURCE LAB does not simply transfer this spring's history unchanged to modern cosmetics. Instead, the question was developed from it: which minerals should be specifically selected and used in a defined composition for the formulation base.
The spring thus provides the inspiration. Product development turns it into SOURCE LAB.
Natural starting point
An unusual mineral composition sparks interest in an independent care approach.
Targeted selection
Sodium, calcium, magnesium, and strontium are selected as the central minerals for the approach.
Defined composition
The four minerals are recreated with high-purity raw materials in a reproducible composition.
Modern skincare
The mineral base is combined, depending on the product, with a few specifically selected care building blocks.
The origin explains the thought. The development makes the difference.
SOURCE LAB is not intended to be defined by regional origin marketing. The spring explains where the mineral idea comes from. Relevant for today's brand is what has been developed from it, formulationally and conceptually.
Concrete skin problems instead of an abstract "sensitive" target group
SOURCE LAB also aims to make the category more concrete in its communication. Because the statement "for sensitive skin" does not explain why someone is looking for different care in the first place.
That is why everyday situations are the focus: skin that feels tight after cleansing, feels dry again quickly despite cream, looks rough or flaky, or appears stressed by too many skincare products.
Even skin that needs moisture and simultaneously tends towards individual blemishes is not automatically forced into a completely new "problem skin" routine.
Instead, SOURCE LAB follows a modular approach: different products take on different tasks.
Mineral Skin Spray
Light mineral skincare base for skin that looks dry or tight quickly.
Sensitive Skin Cream
Minerals plus Ceramide NP, Squalane, Glycerin and Shea Butter.
Mineral Roll-On
Targeted care with Zinc PCA, Ectoin and a concentrated mineral base.
Combine only what you need
The routine should be guided by skincare needs, not by the maximum possible number of products.
A new idea must also be measured by quality
SOURCE LAB does not want to base its positioning solely on brand story and origin. That is why selected finished products are additionally independently dermatologically tested.
The Mineral Skin Spray, the Sensitive Skin Cream and the Mineral Roll-On were awarded an "excellent" rating by Dermatest.
The developed 4-mineral complex forms the brand's characteristic care base.
Additional ingredients are selected based on their specific skincare function.

Not just the next sensitive care product. An answer of our own.
Exclusive mineral base, consciously reduced formulations, clearly defined product tasks and specific skin needs instead of interchangeable beauty promises.
Credibility should not end with the formula
SOURCE LAB now also pursues a clearly defined approach for creator and affiliate collaborations.
Before a public recommendation, products should be tested by the partners themselves and with sufficient time. Before starting a collaboration, the brand also expects detailed and honest product feedback.
Criticism may remain part of the public experience. Compensation is not payment for a positive opinion.
The principles are publicly available in the SOURCE LAB Creator & Affiliate Program section.
What SOURCE LAB means by "an answer of our own to classic sensitive care"
This positioning does not mean that other sensitive products are categorically unsuitable or inferior.
The difference lies in our product logic: The exclusive 4-mineral complex forms a firmly defined care base. Additional ingredients are then specifically added according to the respective product task.
In doing so, SOURCE LAB provides a deliberate counterpoint to beauty communication that defines innovation mainly through ever-new individual hero ingredients or additional care steps.
Scientific classification of the mineral approach
Sodium, calcium, magnesium and strontium are the subject of various scientific studies in connection with skin biology, moisture environment, epidermal processes, and sensory skin irritation.
SOURCE LAB does not automatically apply findings from individual ingredient studies to finished products.
The sources used and the limitations of their validity are explained transparently in the Source and Disclaimer section .
